Motion Control
I have over a decade of experience building and operating motion control equipment, first as a motion control operator at Aardman animation. I went on to design and build dozens of systems including a multi axis underwater rig for blue planet 2. For the past few years I have been shooting with my field friendly rigs around the world for commissioners such as Netflix, Disney+/Nat geo, Apple TV+ and the BBC
I’m evangelical about using motion control for natural history. Aside from being a great tool for many larger scale shots and sequences my equipment can be an incredibly versatile way to film many macro subjects. Using a manual interface It can be used to quickly and precisely position the camera in virtually any orientation inside a 3D space for locked off and moving shots, perfect for following unpredictable small subject. You can scale down the aesthetic of gimbals on tracking vehicles, Steadicam, drones etc. on a smaller scale. Using partially or fully programmed motion control moves you can execute perfectly precise simple or complex moves that would be impossible to achieve in any other way.
My kit is field tested on 6 continents in a variety of environments, from multiple deserts and rainforests to UK studio shoots.
Built and operated by me using top end components, I can build, reconfigure and modify rigs to film in unique and new situations and tailor kit for shooting un-filmed behavior.
